🏉A week-end dedicated to amateur women's rugby🏉

From May 13 to 15, 2022 in Vincennes, took place the 1st edition of the Queens Rugby 7s Festival: 1st European amateur tournament of women's rugby 7s.

After two postponed editions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Alice Milliat Foundation, along with its partners (Banque Palatine, Erasmus+ Sport, the city of Vincennes and the European Commission) organized the first European amateur women's rugby 7s tournament, dedicated to the fight against endometriosis, a chronic gynecological disease that affects one woman in ten in France.

« The Queens Rugby 7 Festival was born from the desire to promote women's sports practices, equality in sport, social inclusion and female leadership to different audiences through a young Olympic discipline. Beyond the competition, it is a place of exchange and reflection combining conferences, debates and exhibitions that aim to show women that they have their place in sport. » - Aurélie Bresson, President of the Alice Milliat Foundation

This 1st edition was the opportunity to gather sixteen European teams from three different levels: school, university and federal. The event was an opportunity to combine sport, sports culture and awareness through various activities, conferences and workshops. Several documentaries were shown, including Les Incorrectes, a documentary that retraces the journey and struggle of Alice Milliat and all sportswomen; sports workshops on current themes were organized for the school teams; and conferences were held on the following themes

  • The feminization of the sports management professions

  • Gender diversity in sport

  • Endometriosis

This festival allowed the women players and the public to have fun, to learn but above all to break the codes of society and to show that they can play rugby as well as their male counterparts.

With a financial contribution from the Ministry of Sports, the event raised 10,000€ for the Endofrance association to support scientific research and the support of endometriosis sufferers.

« This event and this tournament have been a great showcase for the practice of rugby. It is important to show that everywhere in Europe, it is possible for a girl to play rugby and to blossom in the sport. All these players are great ambassadors for rugby » Jessy Tremoulière - international rugby player, sponsor of the Queens Rugby 7 Festival and member of the Alice Milliat collective.
